Background: Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most frequent cause of endocrine hypertension associated with excess aldosterone production from one or both adrenal glands. Somatic or germline mutations in the KCNJ5 potassium channel cause an imbalance in intracellular ion homeostasis.
